About Jacquelyn

Dr Jacquelyn Gamino

Jacquelyn Gamino is a research professor at the University of Texas at Dallas and the founding director of the Adolescent Reasoning Initiative at the Center for BrainHealth.

Her interest in education began prior to age five with her intense desire to teach and engage her preschool friends and siblings in learning activities. As the daughter of two public school teachers, her imagination was reinforced by reality.

She continued to expand her interest in the public school system when she became the mother to two children, and later focused her education-based curiosity into research efforts, to improve learning in students.

She continues to work closely with educators, administrators, and her primary interest: students. She is dedicated to sharing evidence-based practices that reflect current research in brain and cognitive processing.

Jacquelyn at work

Jacquelyn has developed and honed programs to help young adolescents unlock the hidden potential of their brains. A passionate advocate for improving children’s lives, her programs have the unique potential to impact broad social inequalities and individual quality of life.

Jacquelyn’s primary focus is the attainment of resilient executive function skills in all youth - a foundational tenet for leading rich and meaningful lives as adults once outside the classroom. Jacquelyn reverse engineers complex thinking processes, allowing students to experience and grasp the essence of higher-level cognition after a few short sessions.

Artfully combining cognitive neuroscience and the science of learning, Jacquelyn’s workshops for educators and parents reveal practices for tapping into the potential of the adolescent brain. Her impact on tens of thousands of students, families, and teachers nationwide is a testament to her dedication.

Recognized by educational leaders and supported by private foundations and the State of Texas, Jacquelyn leads a lab team of researchers and former educators with the same enthusiasm she has for instilling thinking skills in students. In 2020, her Adolescent Reasoning Initiative team was awarded the D CEO Magazine's Nonprofit Team of the Year.

Philanthropic endeavors

Integral to Jacquelyn's scientific career is a practice of generosity and of sharing her knowledge and experience with others.

After devoting 25 years to sustaining and growing a small private school as a trustee and chairman of the board, Jacquelyn spearheaded a successful fundraising effort to rebuild the school's 40-year-old building, garnering the attention of local news and prospective parents alike.

She is honored to serve actively on advisory boards at various public schools throughout the State of Texas and remains enthusiastic about future nonprofit collaborations.
